Happy Christmas

2012-11-24 14.27.46AC

This will be my last blog before Christmas, hopefully I have been a good girl this year and will get a present from Santa!

The pictures above bring back lovely memories and I can remember exactly how I felt when they were taken.  The first was during the of the POS (Piece of String) last year.  The weather was throwing everything she had at us, rain, strong winds and freezing cold temperatures but arriving at this CP to discovered my lovely friends Ryan and Nicole Brown really gave me a real boost.  They had decked the CP out with Christmas decorations and as you can see dressed up as Santa and his little helper – absolutely perfect, they made sure I ate, provided me with lots of hot coffee and sent me on my way with a huge smile on my face. They even gave me several much needed hugs.

The second picture was taken during the 6633 Extreme Ultra Marathon in the Arctic, on the way to the Arctic Circle.  Although it wasn’t Christmas I felt that Santa would make an appearance any moment.  I was feeling very focused and positive and believe it or not enjoying being out in such a harsh environment. It was such an amazing race and an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.

This Christmas will be slightly different but no less wonderful.  Myself, HWMBO & Wayward Daughter No. 1 and her family will be driving to Cornwall and while I’m there I am taking part in a race put on by Mud Crew called The Scrooge.  No medals or T-shirts just a fun 9 mile muddy run in the beautiful location of The Lost Gardens of Heligan.  My family will also be there to support all the runners and it will be the first time my Grandsons will see me running (or staggering in!!) it would be lovely to cross the finish line with them both, we shall see what happens.  I shall be running with Becky and Paul – that’s if I can keep up with them and my ankle holds up; its going to be such fun!

My only sadness is that Son & Heir to Nothing and Harri won’t be joining us but Santa has left them a large pile of presents to open and I know they will enjoy themselves.

Unless I have time I won’t be doing any long runs over the festive period, instead I will focus on consistency together with a bit of speed.  I intend to buy an OS map of the area and practice with map and compass to try and hone my map reading skills ready for The Spine in a few weeks time.  I’m really looking forward to The Spine, it’s going to be a huge adventure and really will test me on many levels; lets hope I’m strong enough mentally and physically to complete the challenge, I believe I am.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Training.
