Finally I think my body has returned to normal, in other words I’m not feeling tired all the time. Since returning home I have been wide awake at night and knackered during the day.
Since wednesday I have taken it easy in terms of training only doing 55k and thankfully was able to have a sports massage on Saturday which made a huge difference to my legs. Next week the training will be picked up a bit in order to get me ready for the Westhighland Way Race on 23rd June.
Talking of the WHW I’m feeling totally under prepared. Everyone else on the forum have organised their crew properly, know what they are taking, eating etc and I have only just managed to book my accommodation before leaving for Peru, my crew will be briefed this week (not sure what I will tell them!). I have one copy of the map which I have to carry so another map is now on order and my trainers are hopefully on their way (thanks to Ian Corless at www.runwildrunfree.co.uk) medical kit is already purchased but isn’t as yet packaged together, then there is the little matter of organising my dogs ………it will get sorted (she says confidently)
On Thursday I had a great afternoon with Wayward Daughter No. 1 and the boys choosing my hat for the Wedding in August; after much discussion, trying on, pulling faces and standing tall I have decided on this wonderfully large hat. The pink matches my dress – Simples!
Gorgeous or what!! Having had a glorious two weeks where I have given no thought to the wedding I’m now back into full panic mode as there is only 9 weeks to go……..GULP! As well as the wedding on the Saturday we have 21 friends/family to supper on the Friday evening so have ordered a very large Gazebo just in case it rains (and no we can’t use the marquee as it will be laid up and looking beautiful for the wedding – no doubt everyone will be ordered to help finish things off! Then there is lunch for friends and family on the Sunday, busy busy busy.
I made myself laugh the other day when out running. In the Jungle I would spend most of my time with wet feet, either due to mud, water or a combination of both together and yet running in the forest with the dogs I found myself avoiding the puddles and mud! so silly.
As sad moment on Friday when I left Lockie my old 12 year old lab at home while I took Morse out for a run. On Thursday he was running way back and I had to lift him into the car; he has been the most amazing running companion and I will miss his company. Morse however is still full of beans but needs to get fit again as while I’ve been away HWMBO hasn’t appeared to exercise them …tut tut – he did however manage to kill a squirrel but was unable to eat it as he had his mask on; as my friend said its a bit like being given a steak and not being able to enjoy it!!
Tomorrow brings another week of adventures, running and life, fantastic!
As well as my Race Report on the Jungle I will put together a kit list of what I used, what I thought and what changes I would make.
Happy Training
