A few months ago Edward Chapman of the famous duo Ed & Phil contacting me asking if I would test out one of their new products – the UV-Buddy which of course comes in pink! Always happy to assist with some research I received a pink UV bracelet in the post a couple of days later.
UV-Buddy.com produces a selection of reactive jewellery and accessories to help raise your awareness of ultraviolet (UV) rays whilst you are having fun in the sun.
Their UV bracelets are designed with special ultraviolet reactive beads that will let you know when you need to apply your sunscreen. The beads are made of a special plastic material which contain pigments that change colour when exposed to UV light. This is very important as too much exposure to this harmful radiation from the sun can have long term damaging effects on your skin.
Too much exposure to sunlight is harmful and can damage the skin. Some of this damage is only short-term, such as sunburn. However, if you repeatedly expose your skin to the sun allowing it to burn over a number of years it can cause damage to skin. The effects of sun damage include: premature skin ageing and wrinkling, brown spots, actinic keratoses (benign warty growths on the skin), and skin cancer.
Thankfully testing hasn’t been too difficult as we have had some fantastic weather recently. I found that by wearing the bracelet it made me much more aware of how strong the sun was – the UV bracelet allows you to monitor the strength of the Ultra-violet energy your skin is being exposed to and when your beads become very vibrant in colour you will know it’s time to apply sunscreen.
We are all guilty of going for a run, walk whatever it might be without putting on our suncream, I know I do it on a regular basis. It’s always something I think about doing but somehow it goes to the bottom of my list and before I know it I’m heading off into the countryside for a 4 hour run – with NO suncream!
The UV-Buddy Bracelet really has given me a kick up the backside, it’s a constant reminder that I must put on sun-cream before I go outside, and I do – amazing how something so simple works. Give it a try.
