No babysitters required!

My grandsons have now returned to their loving parents who returned from a wonderful Honeymoon last week so training can now continue without having to find a babysitter!

Thankfully I have managed to get in most of my runs which has been fantastic and I have added to the mix some interval tyre dragging sessions which are tough going but boy do you feel wonderful afterwards.

While running in the forest last week I met up with a lovely old couple who are there everyday exercising their various dogs.  However over the past few weeks I had noticed that the husband wasn’t  there with his lovely old dog; you can imagine my delight on seeing him back in the forest, sadly without his old friend who had passed away a few weeks before hand.  I commented that I hadn’t seen him around recently and he told me that he had found it very difficult to get motivated after his dog had passed away (he was 15 years old) he had no reason to get out of bed and go for a walk and found himself feeling more and more depressed.  I wanted to give him a huge hug as he looked so frail and near to tears.  I hope I see him many more times in the forest and with each passing day he will find it easier to get himself up and out of the door; it goes to show how much any animal becomes such an important and loving part of our lives.

Caroline and I did a lovely 30k run along the NDW last week, fantastic weather and lots of chat as you can imagine. I have also done various runs along the beach and Camber Sands which is good strength training for my ankle as its a stoney beach when the tide is in.  Legs are feeling good even though I had a medium weight backpack on so happy with that.

Everything seems to be falling into place for the WRA in September the maps are now sorted, routes transferred to the various Garmins, transport and bike sorted, forms done just a log book to get then I think everything is ready.  Even sorted out the official starter and finisher – must have forgotten something.  Now I just have to get my little legs to do the distance in the time – GULP

Alex Flynn leaves today for the start of his TAC (Trans American Challenge) which kicks off next week.  I wish him and his crew lots of luck and have no doubts that they will get Alex to the finish line – Sharky not too many jokes as you will have Alex laughing too much!!

Have a great week of training, I’m off to start my Race Report on the Jungle Ultra – can’t believe I still haven’t done it.
