Since my last post I have been to Scotland and back and I didn’t even need a passport!
It was a great shame to miss the Highland Fling but was absolutely the right decision for me to have made; many congratulations to everyone who took part. HWMBO and I arrived at the Old Bags house in time for tea followed by a delicious supper, I ate far too much then went to bed ready for my run the following day.
Thursday morning I ran from the house to the Union Canal (the start of the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra) with a 7.5 – 8kg pack, this was my first run with a pack since my achilles and all felt good. I did 32k but when I arrived home my legs felt very stiff which wasn’t surprising I suppose. Lots of stretching and massage and legs returned to normal, no pain from the achilles so even better. Friday morning I again ran from the house, did two loops of Arthurs seat (including climbing to the top) and ran home, 16km, but this time with no pack, felt marvellous and to top it all great weather. Saturday I did 21k with a pack again, round Arthurs Seat. This time however I kept bumping into a very good looking man who was running round AS in the opposite direction, the third time I did giggle! Unfortunately for me he looked fantastic I didn’t look quite as cool with a pack on and a red face, but I made him smile. I popped in to see Collin Footworks but stupidly had forgotten that he was running the Fling, oh well, perhaps next time. (A great shop BTW)
The Old Bag was fantastic and organised drinks and dinner so I could catch up with various friends, really was wonderful to see them all.
Sunday morning HWMBO and I drove south, thankfully over the weekend we had missed the rain and had enjoyed wonderful sunshine, as we crossed the boarder into England down poured the rain, floods everywhere, stupid drivers who decide for reasons only known to themselves NOT to use their headlights (bloody dangerous), but we managed to get to Kent in one piece.
This week I have done a couple of runs, one with pack one without and tomorrow will be a long run with pack as the Jungle is only just under 3 weeks away.
I’m trying to get myself signed up to a couple of Speaking Agencies; although I get very nervous about giving talks I do quite enjoy the experience once I get started and it would be good to be able to perhaps earn a bit of money out of my running, especially as I have two projects coming up that require money; the BIG one and I mean big plan for next year is very exciting, if I can get that organised I will be over the moon.
Happy Training
