Running time!

Running time!

The last 10 days I have been following my Osteopaths instructions not to run to allow my achilles to recover.  Thankfully I gave been able to do some cross training and aqua-jogging which hopefully prevented me from getting too grumpy with HWMBO!

Aqua-jogging is great as a recovery session but I can’t do more than an hour without getting bored.  The old dears in the pool often ask if me if I need some help (I must look as though I’m drowning!) and the children find it extremely amusing that this dotty old lady is swimming in a funny way with an iPod attached to the top of her head – someone has got to be the clown of the pool!

We have been blessed with fantastic weather, long may it last,  now that I can finally get my Hoka OneOnes back on and run.  The dogs and I headed off to the forest this morning for a quick 10k , decided it was sensible to start with a short run and see how the achilles feels then build it up over the week.  I am of course on taper now for the 147.9 mile Viking Way Ultra which kicks off on the Easter weekend so no long runs for me.

Over the weekend I was supposed to be running the Endurancelife Ultra, but sadly had to pull out because of my achilles, such a shame as the weather was fantastic.  In the evening I was one of three guest speakers.   Russell Secker spoke first about his amazing Trans-Europe race, makes my distances look rather pathetic, great talk and very funny.  The final speaker of the night was Danny Bent who had the most wonderful story to tell and was extremely enthusiastic.  Amongst the audience was a young boy who asked Russell the best question of the night “so, do you have a job apart from running?” just marvellous!

I met some great people during the evening, they were full of enthusiasm and just loved their running, so fantastic to hear.  My nerves always kick in before I give a talk, but I remind myself that if I can inspire just one person to try something different or push themselves that little bit further it is worth all the nerves, stress and worry.

Inspirational photo time!  This was sent to me by a friend and just makes me laugh out-loud!

Happy training
