Finally found time to sit down at my computer and write my blog, I have tried several times but seem to be easily distracted by things that need doing in the house, emails and of course running!
On the Thursday I did an easy run on the treadmill before my spin class, then took the dogs off to the forest for an interval session with my tyre! Boy is it tough dragging it up the hills, but a good day of exercising so happy. Friday we were off for the weekend so I took the dogs for a steady 16k run, pleased with my time, but obviously would like to be quicker (wouldn’t we all!!!)
Saturday was supposed to be my hill rep session, but as we were away for the weekend and spent the whole of Saturday walking around the country-side of Oxfordshire chatting to a great friend I haven’t seen for ages so by the time we got back to the house we were staying at, warmed up, had a cup of tea and of course a large slice of fruit cake, I wasn’t in the mood to try and find a 500m hill to run up. I made the decision to do a short run tomorrow once home.
HWMBO and I had a fantastic weekend, catching up with great great friends, doing a lot of talking (well, I did a lot of talking!) lots of walking, getting cold and laughing, so all in all a great weekend.
On the way home on Sunday I was dropped off and ran home, not very far but it was all I needed after a busy week.
This week is extremely relaxed as I have the Pilgrims Challenge on Saturday and Sunday. Both days will be used as training runs, so not racing. I always get nervous before a race, even one that isn’t one of my A races, lots of thoughts of doubts go through my mind, followed by a panic that I won’t be able to run or I’m running SO slowly that I go backwards! Pathetic but its the same each time. The week before the events I don’t sleep very well and usually wake up in the early hours of the morning WIDE AWAKE!
Finally the cold weather is here, yippee. We even had snow in Kent today which was wonderful, there is something very special about running while its snowing and its never as cold as you think it should be.
Listened to the Talk Ultra podcast today, really enjoyed it, Ian Corless and Ian Sharman make a great team, they sounded as though they had been doing it for years. Very much looking forward to the next episode.
Thought I had better start concentrating on and doing my homework on some of the big races I have coming up, its not that I haven’t done any homework, I just like to do lots so I feel comfortable about what lies ahead. Maps have been ordered for the West Highland Way Race at the end of June and as I can’t get up there for any training runs I will be running the Hoka One One Highland Fling at the end of April which is the first 53 miles of the race, really looking forward to taking part.
Would love to hear from you guys, how your training is doing, what you think or don’t think of my blog and anything else that you would care to talk about!
Ramblings will continue later in the week.
Happy Training
