Wow, woke up this morning to rain and a howling gale, it was extremely tempting to stay in bed!
Today was a two day run, both short, the first easy and the second one fast. After dragging myself from my lovely comfortable warm bed, I dressed put on my reflective and very attractive waistcoat and headed out for my first run along the lanes. The first section was straight into the wind and rain and at one point I had my eyes virtually closed as the rain was making them sting. Two guys were collecting the rubbish left by lazy people along the side of the road and I think were quite surprised to see anyone out in that sort of weather. They laughed when I commented on what a good day it was to run!
Although wet and windy it wasn’t cold, so once running away from the wind it felt OK – I was hoping the wind would be behind me to give me a wee bit of a shove – no such luck.
Wifely duties once home….no not that….HWMBO was at work (behave!) the ironing – there always seems to be a lot of it in my house. It was very difficult concentrating as I had bits and pieces to do on the computer, plus I dislike ironing.
Wayward Daughter No. 1 decided (probably quite rightly) that today wasn’t a good day to start training, especially with small baby, so I headed off to the gym for my fast (cough cough) second run of the day. Speed as we all know is relative, I would or will never be able to run as fast as Liz Yelling or Paula, I often think of these people as I’m trying to will my legs to pick up the pace, I just don’t think my legs could go that fast, I would look like a cartoon character where the legs can’t keep up with the body! Total respect. I have digressed (taking after HWMBO)
With dogs in the car (morse with his muzzle on so he doesn’t eat the contents of my car) drove towards the gym, at one point I had to stop as the rain was so heavy it was like being a white-out, very frightening. Once at the gym I warmed up then began my fast run, good grief, it was hard, I huffed and puffed but felt marvellous once finished. Not the best time in the world by most standards but its a starting point for me, a goal to beat, very exciting!
After my run I then did some gym work and worked on my core, this I’m afraid although essential I find rather dull. Amazingly the wind and rain stopped AND the sun came out, time to take the dogs for their walk.
Yesterday I mentioned in my blog that I had taken up the Marathon Talk Jantastic challenge. I thought I had committed myself to 7 runs each week – WRONG the buttons must have switched over and I appear to have 8, so there will now be two double sessions each week as its important for me to have my day off (never done this before so all part of my new plan) I am also having an alcohol free January, although 31 days seems a long time so am doing 1 day at a time; it will be achieved, my body won’t know me by February!!
Happy Training
Ted
I totally agree that speed is all relative, as is distance. What I would once consider Recovery Run distance is (for the meantime) a LSR. :o)
