Everyone has been moaning about the rain we have been having, but luckily for me I have managed to miss it each day when I go out for my run – him upstairs must have his brolly up for me!
Running has been going well. For 7 days I run 16k each day then have two days off then either do the same again or up the daily distances until I fly to Peru on the 20th. Every other run is done with a pack which now weights 9.5 – 10kg, boy can I feel it on my legs, thank goodness for my Hokas. My shoulders are holding up fine and I’m trying out the different tapes etc that people have kindly sent me for my sore back. The problem I have is keeping the tape on while running as when it gets wet it becomes unstuck so not sure what I’m going to do.
I loved running with my friend Caroline over the Bank holiday weekend, she has started training for the G2G in September which is marvellous as its great having another mad person running round the forest with a pack on.
On 1st May entries opened for the Brecons Ultra in Wales, can you believe it was sole out within 20 hours; just goes to show what an amazing event it is. Martin & Sue from Likeys make everyone feel welcome, organise a pub quiz (which hopefully this year I will do slightly better for the Scottish team….ooops!) and staying in the Bunk house is a real joy with fantastically home cooked food on Friday night and the best Scottish breakfast in the world on Sunday morning, best of all its marvellous catching up with friends.
With just under two weeks to go before I fly out to Peru the kit on my bed appears to be growing, not a good sign. Every time I think of something I may need it gets thrown onto the bed. The medical kit is HUGE unfortunately its all compulsory so I can’t take anything out, although the Jungle is one place where you want to have the right kit. I’m sure there are a few things however that can be cut down on, I wonder if the doctors themselves ever take part in staged races, perhaps then it might be 1 needles instead of 5 and I personally never use compeed plasters as they tend to explode in the heat and wet which then makes the blisters worse as your not supposed to take these plasters off once on – just a few very minor things that are frustrating. I am however very excited and can’t wait to be out there and meet my fellow runners.
Time for a celebratory glass of wine….what am I celebrating I hear you ask, well the fact that its Monday evening and HWMBO goes back to work tomorrow!! (only joking of course!)
Happy Training
