Long suffering other halves!!

Yipdeedoo the end of another marvellous week of running.  I managed my 8 runs for Jantastic so very pleased and feel great.  On Thursday I had another double day, short run before my spinning class followed by a hard but enjoyable spin session, then another run, this time a speed session, this of course nearly killed me, but I was running better and a touch faster than last week so felt pleased with myself – OK a little smug!

This weekend I was supposed to be taking part in the C2C (Country to Capital 45 miles) but felt that it was too soon into my training and made the decision not to run, for me it was definitely the right choice as I want to be sensible with my training, get it right and be ready and well prepared for my main races.  My first event will be the first weekend in February when I take part in the Pilgrims Challenge, although I won’t be racing it, I will treat both days as training runs.

I was due to go down to the Outdoor show on Friday, but postponed it until Saturday.  Friday I took my pack and went for a lovely run in the forest with the dogs – great fun.

Most runners do their long runs at the weekends because it fits in with work.  My long runs usually take place on a Monday as weekends are difficult for me to justify taking time away from the family when I have the time during the week.  It must be very difficult for our long suffering other halves who don’t run and can’t understand why we do what we do, we are after all pretty selfish and focused when it comes to our passion.   HWMBO isn’t a runner – well, he used to run for his school then for the Army but ran quickly so it was over an done with quicker as he dislike it so much, unfortunately for him because he was fast he kept on getting picked! He dislikes it when I disappear even for an hour and half for a run on a saturday and if I want to go for a run on a sunday, just a short one I almost feel I have to sneak out when he’s asleep!  He said that he didn’t mind saying yes to me doing the MdS in 2001 (my first Ultra) as he believed I would go through with it! poor man, I bet he wished he’d just said no!

On Saturday I went to the Excel for the Outdoor show where I met up with Wes the Race Director of the Jungle Ultra which I’m doing in May.  A great guy, very focused, motivated and working extremely hard to give the runners the best possible experience he can and to keep it as safe as he can, I for one am very excited.  Great to see Neil Bryant and Lou at the stand, last time I saw him was at the Spartathlon.  Later I met up with another sponsor which was wonderful, so all in all a very productive day.

SILY and HWMBO ripped out the bathroom while I was away, thank goodness I didn’t see the house nearly flood, I did however return to a huge pile of soaking wet towels!  What a mess, however it will look fantastic once we get round to putting it back together again.  Wayward Daughter No 1 and the boys were also here which was lovely, so lots of noise, nappies and water, great combination!

Looking forward to another week, picking up the training again, but I think it will take a bit more juggling as I have quite a lot to fit in.

Happy Training
