Today was the start of my new training plan. Usually I always run on the 1st day of the year, but as I now have Sundays off, that is exactly what I did, enjoyed a day off with HWMBO.
This morning I leap out of bed, had coffee, dressed and swopped my orthotics from my Bondi B (Hoka One One) to my Combo XT as my run was going to be a muddy 21k in Hempsted forest with a friend.
My left foot felt as though it had a tad more room in than usual, but I thought nothing of it as I was enjoying the run and chatting to my friend. There were sections where we slid all over the place, mud flying in all directions, but it felt good. We bumped into a family out walking their two mad dogs and they seemed to find it funny that the largest of the dogs kept jumping up at us, nothing for it but to try and outrun the dog….huffing and puffing we finally managed it.
Although it was cold and a bit windy, the sun was glistening through the trees which always warms the heart and puts a smile on my face, also means I can take my gloves off without worrying that my fingers are going to loose feeling at the ends (always a bonus when trying to undo buttons etc after a run!)
22k later I found myself back at the car, delighted with the run and a good start to 2012. After a stretch I took myself home for a coffee and a lovely hot bath (unless my children have used up all the water!). The reason why my left foot felt as though it had more room in is because it did, I stupidly had forgotten to put the orthotic in – daft old bat that I am :0)
FINALLY I managed to get a lovely hot bath….word with children required! I then set about putting away the Christmas decorations – love doing this, it suddenly makes my house look huge and very clean.
Last week I signed up to Marathon Talks Jantastic – this basically means that you register yourself and say how many runs you think you can do every week for the month of January, then if you want you can challenge people – a great idea. My goal is 7 runs a week. I was tempted to put more, but my training programme only has 7 runs – no point having a programme and not following it. Tomorrow I have two runs, an easy 5k in the morning then a timed 5k in the afternoon. Slightly concerned about the fast 5k, I have no idea how fast I will do it but know I will be knackered at the end!
Wayward Daughter No. 1 starts her fitness regime tomorrow afternoon with a friend – I’m taking the girls round the forest with their buggies, should be entertaining. I believe its going to rain tomorrow so have instructed them to bring wet weather gear, Wayward Daughter No. 1 asked if I meant pram rain covers! Bless……luckily for her I have lots of waterproof jackets, no getting out of it now.
Its wine O’clock, but as I have given up the amber nectar for January I’m enjoying a glass of fizzy water……..not quite the same but my body is a temple!!!!!!!
Happy Training
