Hot flushes

You may not have noticed but I have a fantastic new website designed by Apula Advertising and Design, they have done a marvellous job.  All my blogs are in the process of being moved over which is taking a bit longer as they were corrupt – thankfully I don’t have to sort it or it would take forever!

A lot has been going on in my life over the past few weeks, not just the build up to Christmas but organising Wayward Daughter No. 1 wedding, my list seems to get longer and longer, but finally I’m seeing a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel as various things get sorted and ticked off, very satisfying.

Since returning from Spartathlon I took a couple of weeks off then went back to training, only to discover that my Asthma started playing up so had to stop training again until it got better, then I found I was going into hot sweats throughout the day – and NO before you ask its NOT the menopause (although I wish it would hurry up!) It was rather like (I can only imagine) having a hot flush, my whole body would break out in sweat and drip, really unpleasant, not good when you are standing on stage giving a talk, however, the difference between a menopause hot flush and the ones I was having is that afterwards I would feel very cold, not able to control my body temperature.  Apparently I had a virus which I just  had to wait to while it run its course.

At the beginning of December I drove down to Wales for the Beacons Ultra which is organised by one of my sponsors Likeys.  I had never done this event before but was looking forward to it as not only was it a great race I would be able to catch up with lots of running friends and have a look round Martin’s and Sue’s wonderful shop on the Sunday.  Unfortunately, because of the virus my body wasn’t behaving and certainly didn’t feel ready for racing.  I did the first loop of 23 miles but made the decision to call it a day as I had nothing left in my body and knew it was the right decision to make.  A great weekend was had by all, especially the quiz in the pub – I apparently got one answer right!!! (makes a change!)

Since then I made the decision to take things easy, let my body recover properly (body temperature control now back to normal) and start training with gusto after christmas.  This year has been a busy one for me and I’m pleased with my results, so now its relax time, chill and enjoy then zoom back to training and looking forward to an amazing and exciting 2012.

Happy Training
