X-Bionics, Profeet and mammograms!

I felt that last week went better, I enjoyed my long runs, legs felt good, although still having issues with the right leg, but  all more positive so won’t be pulling out of the TP100 – as someone quite rightly said “man up”

Simon from X-Bionics popped round for a chat to go through the kit I’m going to need for the rest of the year which was fantastic, they have kit for all temperatures and some of it I can even dye pink!  I’m very lucky to be sponsored by such a great Company.

On Monday I did my speed session, my goodness it was cold.  18k in total, hard work but felt great when I got home.  After walking the dogs followed by a bath I caught the train to London as I had an appointment with Richard at Profeet to have some of their amazing customised insoles fitted.

For those of you who haven’t been to Profeet before, this is what they do:

Profeet specialise in custom fitting running shoes, ski boots, hiking, walking and trekking shoes and other footwear for active people.

If you want to improve your performance and address any issues that are preventing you from enjoying your sport and reaching your optimum then Profeet team can help.

Our proven 3 step process delivers the optimum footwear solution for you:

We observe and assess your foot type and particular patterns of movement using cutting-edge technology including video gait analysis and pressure-plate foot scanning combined with our biomechanical expertise.

Based on your evaluation, one of our skilled technicians will craft bespoke insoles (orthotics) to support, guide and cushion your feet. These are integrated into the correct running shoe, ski boot or other footwear to deliver a perfect fit and optimise your performance, guaranteed!

I must say it was a great service, all my “faults” were looked at and were sorted in my insoles (which sadly are orange not pink!) Richard very kindly sent me home with two pairs of insoles which will see me through a huge amount of running!

These mats that you stand on to get the mold for your feet feels a bit like one of those balls that you hold in your hand and squish when you feel angry – a stress ball I believe they are called.

I tested the insoles out on my runs today and they felt comfortable so very happy!  Today was supposed to be a double session but as I’m having my hair cut at 1.30 I refuse to go out running after spending money having my hair cut and blow dried so fitted both session in this morning.  Up early and into the forest for a 15k run immediately followed by an 8k tyre dragging session with the dogs – they love this session as it gives them more time to wonder around sniffing interesting smells!

The NHS have sent me a letter informing me that now I’m 50 I will be having a routine mammogram every 3 years until I get to 70.  This is excellent news, although last time I had this done it was rather painful trying to get one side of my bust onto the machine to be x-rayed.  I had to stand on tiptoe as it was  squashed between two plates, not easy when you are virtually flat chested.

Long run tomorrow so hope the weather holds out.  My plan is to run along the North Downs Way nice and easy, then one more long run, another speed session and its relax time next week sorting my kit out for the TP100.  It will be one step at a time and fingers crossed I get to the finish line in one piece!!

Happy Training!
